We started out today to the Statue of Liberty. We layered up because it was supposed to rain all day and be in the high 50's. We took the subway down to Battery Park to catch the ferry out to the island. Here's our Lady Liberty from the ferry.
I bought us tickets to the crown because I figured since we were there... Why not? A pic of the stairs...
People, I kid you not. A few steps on the spiral staircase I started to panic. Like really panic and I was on the verge of turn around and going back down. The spiral staircase was TIGHT. There stairs above you were right over your head. I had to actually talk myself into continuing. I'm glad I did because I got to be with the boys when they saw the crown.
It's a tiny little space, but need to see. We looked out one window and saw her tablet...
Out another window is the bottom of the torch.
Me and the boys on the pedestal with Manhattan in the background.
We ate an overpriced lunch at the cafe and the headed on to the gift shop. They had the copper discs in a machine where you could "mint" your own coin. The boys each got one for a souvenir. So cool!
We got on the ferry to check out Ellis Island. We were waiting for a shirt informational movie and Reed almost feel asleep on my shoulder.
My mom wanted to look through the archives to find one of our relatives that immigrated here. His name was Axel Edwin Rosenquist (hence Hudson's middle name Axel). She found one that she thinks might be him, so she's going to go home and look at her research she's done.
I didn't get a pic of the boys in front of the Statue of Liberty because it was get really cold and raining harder. So I took this from Ellis Island. Totally counts. :)
We took the ferry back to Manhattan and took a quick ride over to Ground Zero to see the 9/11 Museum.
It would be easy to stay in there all day, but by this point in the day it was 4:15 we have been walking around for HOURS and the boys were getting tired.
There was so much to look at- I would definitely recommend it. After we left the museum, everybody was hungry so we grabbed dinner at TGIFridays. Reed was pooped.
Dinner was yummy and we had a short distance to the hotel (thank goodness because the temp was probably in the low 40's at this point and raining pretty good. But I did get this picture of the Empire State Building.
